Hemel Hempstead Cannabis Club Picnic, 16th May 2015

Wow! We had an AMAZING picnic yesterday, I want to share some of the photos from the day.

We arrived to a beautiful, empty field filled with flowers, with a river running through it.

We put all our blankets down and set up a sweet rig brought along by the Abingdon and Oxford Cannabis Community (Please click the link to have a look at their Facebook group). And then people started to arrive with cakes, sandwiches, pop and love...

Then people really started showing up! We can not explain how grateful we are for people making the effort to come and get involved with the cause. There were people at this event that had never come to any cannabis events before, but saw our posts online and decided to come along and meet us.

I know a lot of people couldn't make it who wanted to. We will be having another picnic in the coming months, please keep an eye on the Hemel Hempstead Cannabis Club Facebook group. We also have an email list, pop +Katy Clouds a message either via email or on Facebook. Alternatively you can check out our contacts page.

Michelle brought along some fabulous medicated chocolates that went down a treat. Definitely going to be baking some medibles for the next picnic, which is in Hitchin and being hosted by the Hertfordshire Cannabis Club. Go over to their Facebook event page if you want more information, or want to come along!

We tried very to get a whole group shot, with everyone looking at the camera, but it was a bit of a task! I also love the shot with the kite - it was such a perfect location and weather for a picnic, we couldn't have been luckier. It's not usual for life to be on the pro-canna side, but everything worked out perfectly!

We can't wait to see everyone at the next event, which is in Hitchin on Saturday. Don't be shy! I'll do a proper write up of what we achieved with yesterdays picnic later on in the week, please add our blog to your RSS feed, or check back for updates.

Huge thank you to Mr Jack Bean, Michelle & Ben and Telman Mansfield for the photos. Please let me know if I occidentally stole your photo without crediting you!

Hemel Cannabis Club Newsletter, May 12th

As part of our plans to increase the reach and influence of our club, we have been collecting email address to create a mailing list. If you would like to be added, you will receive occasional updates about what the club is doing, how we plan to move forward and events and meet-ups across south England.

In case you missed the first one, which contains details of our upcoming picnic in Hemel Hempstead on the 16th of May, please see below.

--------------------------------------

Hello,

I had planned to send out a newsletter today. It was all fancy with special boxes and stuff. But my computer seems to have eaten it and I was anxious to get some information out to the people whose email addresses I have been collecting at events and meetings.

Thank you for coming to our events, or at least, stopping to have a conversation with one of us long enough to have your email address extracted to sign you up for the cause! If you don't want to be included in our newsletters or emails, which will mainly consist of information about upcoming events and an occasion newsletter, please reply to this with REMOVE or something similar in the title and you won't get anything else from us.

We are holding a picnic starting at 1pm on the 16th of May. The exact location, in the Gadebridge Park area of Hemel Hempstead, will be posted on our Facebook group early in the morning Saturday. ALL ARE WELCOME!!! Please encourage interested friends to come along, and don't be afraid to come alone, other people will be too. It's a friendly group and we passionately want to reach more people.

It will be a much better day if everyone brings along something to share with everyone. Please don't let it stop you from coming if you can't bring anything along, but if you can bring some food, a blanket, some soft drinks or some paper cups and plates, that would be great! I'll post something on the event Facebook page if you want to let people know what you are bringing to prevent overlaps.

We don't condone recreational smoking around children or the Police. We believe the location of the picnic should offer some privacy but we will be open to people approaching us and wanting to know more. We are going to have some music (If you have a portable charger to bring along, that would also be a great help!) if you are part of a group or related organisation that bring along your info/stickers/leaflets. And stay for the clean up if you can, please. A few groups will be heading to the train station after the picnic (ending weather & atmosphere dependant!) so we can sort out some cabs and things if you need one at the end.

I'm going to update the blog page (http://hemelcannabisclub.blogspot.com) tomorrow with all the upcoming events in the local community and in London. If you have an event coming up, please fire me back an email and I'll add your event in. We are happy to promote pro-cannabis events from others groups, we can only fight this battle by pulling together.

I hope the people who joined the protests this week in London have kept safe,

Hemel Cannabis Club

Global Cannabis Day London May 2nd - How It Should Have Been Reported

Since the mainstream media don't seem to want to report on dissent amougst The Proles this close to Election time, here's what we wish we could have seen first thing on Sunday morning...

4th May, 2015

The streets of Central London ground to a halt this weekend as anti-prohibition protesters took to the streets to campaign for legalisation of cannabis. Fighting for their cause, the protesters stormed The Strand, holding up traffic and congregating outside the gates of Downing Street.

Campaigners were drawing plenty of attention from passers by, with tourists lining the pavements and filming the action.

Early in the morning some of the attendees spoke to Police Liason Officers patrolling outside Parliament, and were informed that the protest wasn’t going to be happening as no one had shown up. In classic dishonest Police style, it became evident pretty soon that pro-cannabis groups were gathering just around the corner.

Campaigners spent time in Parliament Square, chatting with protesters from Occupy Democracy, situated opposite Parliament until May 10th, spreading out large banners and scattering Hemp seeds. Heritage officers, high on power rather than marijuana (a far more dangerous drug), attempted to stop activists from feeding the birds, citing a by-law that prevents these pastimes in the areas around the Houses Of Parliament.

At 3 ‘o’ clock, campaigners from various local and national pro-cannabis groups as well as individuals from all over England who came to support the cause gathered their things and began a peaceful, traffic-stopping march down the centre of The Strand towards Downing Street.

Outside the gates, tensions began to rise as the traffic pooled around the group and the Police began confiscating items from protesters, including an oversized tennis ball with anti-government slogans written on it. The crowd, already agitated by the police attempt to prevent them from blocking the road, became increasing frustrated when property wasn’t returned, and in the spirit of true democracy, a group decision was made to continue the march much further than perhaps it would have if the Police had not attempted to intervene.

Led by a popular megaphone-bearing activist and a small group holding large banners with slogans such as ‘Cannabis is medicine’ and the surprisingly polite ‘Please Legalise Cannabis For Adults’ the group moved towards Trafalgar Square. Blocking traffic and drawing attention from tourists and workers in the city, many of whom came out of their shops, leaned over balconies and stopped dead in the street to observe and often cheer for the protesters.

Marching past Charing Cross Police Station, down through Leicester Square and along the Embankment, shouting rousing chants and prevent traffic from passing, the group returned to Parliament square on the dot of 4.20, lifting spirits even higher and fuelling a final stand in front of Big Ben as banners were spread out and the atmosphere become tenser as the Police started to threaten to make arrests. Their frustration didn’t go down well with the crowd, who at this stage had not had their ball returned and had given up a large anti-prohibition banner, stating that prohibition supports organised crime, to police

After sitting for as long as possible in the road without being arrested, the campaigners moved over to the square to celebrate the success of the day. With no arrests for possesion, quite a bit of press attention and a very large amount of attention from the public, most of the pro-cannabis groups in attendance saw the day as a success, and a platform to launch much larger events in the future.

If you are interested in keeping up to date with future events in the pro cannabis community, please join our Facebook group. We also have a mailing list where we send out a monthly newsletter about upcoming events and news from the movement.
